September 30, 2008: Failing Dams at Crooked Creek Preserve to be Removed
The Nature Conservancy today announced that it would soon begin work to partially remove two half-century-old dams at its Crooked Creek Preserve. The dams are considered unsafe, and they have impacted the ecological health of the Mukwonago River by altering the river’s flow and raising its temperature.

May 08, 2008: Fall and Spring Burns Have Helped Restore Wisconsin’s Mukwonago River Watershed
The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin announced Wednesday that over the past six months it has used trained fire crews to burn a total of 125 acres at three of its preserves located within the watershed of the Mukwonago River. The Conservancy and other land managers including private landowners, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service use prescribed fire as an ecological tool to restore or maintain natural areas.

May 04, 2008: The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin Returns Kennedy Bench to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The Nature Conservancy announced today that it has returned a wooden bench used by John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The couple sat on the bench on April 4, 1960 when they visited the newspaper during his successful presidential run. The bench was given to The Nature Conservancy last year by the late Newell and Ann Meyer as part of a $12.5 million gift to help conserve Wisconsin’s Mukwonago River.

April 17, 2008: Volunteers Needed to Plant Trees in Door County
The Nature Conservancy is seeking volunteers to help plant 19,000 trees on approximately 38 acres in Door County this spring. The tree-planting work is scheduled April 24 through May 2 and will complete a five-year reforestation project.

June 21, 2007: Wisconsin Voters Support Increasing Stewardship Fund
More than three in five Wisconsin voters back a proposal to increase the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund to $105 million per year and renew it for another decade. The Stewardship Fund is a state program established in 1990 that protects natural areas, water quality, wildlife habitat, parks and recreational lands through voluntary agreements with willing landowners.
