January 31, 2008: Conservation Project to Benefit Art and Nature Receives Set Back
Grant denial increases burden on local fundraising efforts. The 312-acre forested parcel currently owned by the Southern Vermont Arts Center is under contract to the Vermont chapter of the Conservancy. This forested parcel is part of the largest patch of rich northern hardwood forest in the Northeast, and is an important addition to lands already conserved in the area.

The Nature Conservancy announced today that Phil Huffman from Waitsfield, VT has joined the Vermont chapter as Director of Conservation Programs. Huffman has more than 20 years of experience with the National Park Service and as an independent consultant, and has been involved in a number of prominent conservation initiatives in Vermont over the last 10 years.

Blue jeans and gardening gloves will replace the normally sober attire of shirt and tie at the State House this week. Vermont Master Gardeners, The Nature Conservancy’s Wise on Weeds (WOW!) program and the State of Vermont Dept. of Buildings and General Services will jointly host two "Recognize and Remove" workshops, the first step in a collaborative project to renovate the State House cafeteria garden.

March 01, 2007: Initiative Targets Invasive Plants that Threaten Wildlife
Efforts to control invasive plants in the Lake Champlain Basin got a boost today with the launch of a new public outreach and education campaign spearheaded by the Champlain Basin Invasive Plant Partnership. The partnership, formed by a group of local land trusts, horticulture experts and state and federal agencies, is calling for gardeners, horticulturalists and homeowners to help combat invasive plants that pose a major threat to wildlife and forests.

William P. Stritzler, owner and managing director of Smugglers’ Notch Resort, Vermont’s premier family ski destination, takes over today as chair of the board of trustees of The Nature Conservancy of Vermont. Stritzler, who joined the board in 2003, has a strong history of service in the non-profit sector and was attracted to The Nature Conservancy by the group’s scientific and business-like approach to conservation.

April 10, 2003: Key Chittenden County Conservation Project Closes
When the ice thaws on Preston Pond in Bolton this spring, the Town of Bolton and its conservation partners will be entering the final stages of a transaction that has been over 12 years in the making. In 1990 a developer purchased a large parcel of land including Preston Pond in Bolton. On March 20, the Vermont Land Trust (VLT) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) completed the first stage of insuring the land’s protection.

March 06, 2003: Atlas Timberlands Project Receives Forest Stewardship Council Certification
The Atlas Timberlands Project, the third largest private landholding in Vermont, has been certified to meet Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards by the SmartWood program of the Rainforest Alliance. The land is jointly owned by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) of Vermont and the Vermont Land Trust (VLT), which purchased these lands in 1997 to protect both the working landscape and the ecological resources there.

November 01, 2002: The Nature Conservancy of Vermont Buys Land in Pownal Hills
The Pownal Hills are part of a chain of uplands that descend from Mt. Anthony to the Hoosic River plain in Southwestern Vermont. Three small hills – Quarry, Schoolhouse and Peckham hills – are aligned along the east side of the river. In mid-October The Nature Conservancy of Vermont purchased a 50.7-acre parcel on the summit of Quarry Hill.
