Curtis' milkwort in Serpentine Barrens

Pennsylvanians know our state’s treasures: magnificent forests, bountiful wildlife and waters that host world-class fishing. With the strong support of Pennsylvania businesses, and partners across the Commonwealth, The Nature Conservancy has protected thousands or acres across the state, including many that are recognized as globally important sanctuaries for high-quality forests and the rich diversity of plants and animals that live in them.

Corporate partners make it possible to protect our natural heritage here in ways that enhance Pennsylvania’s economy — from tourism to working forest easements that sustain jobs and protect important wildlife habitat.

The Nature Conservancy’s collaborative, non-confrontational, science-based approach has earned the respect of business and industry leaders who agree that a partnership between commerce and conservation is an investment in Pennsylvania’s future and our economy.

Working together, business and conservation can improve their bottom lines, boosting profit for business, and achieving conservation on a much larger scale.

And the Award Goes To...

The Nature Conservancy, working with Journal Publications Inc.(.pdf 86kb), would like to recognize those business initiatives that improve our economy and further the mission of protecting the diversity of life on Earth. On April 13, 2009, Pennsylvania companies will be honored at the Harrisburg Hilton for Investing in Nature Initiatives that improve our environment and the bottom line.

Nominations are being sought in seven categories:

  • Energy Conservation Initiatives, Natural Resource Management, Green Building Design/Construction/Planning, Environmental Education Initiatives, Innovative New Environmental Technologies, Sustainable Agriculture and Ecotourism.

Nominations are being accepted through January 21, 2009. Click to download the Investing in Nature nomination form (pdf, 328KB).
