The Nature Conservancy’s work throughout the state affects New York City residents every day.  Consider this:

• We’re helping protect the Catskill forests that provide New York City with some of the freshest, cleanest, naturally-filtered drinking water in the country.
• Our research is behind draft legislation to clean up the air and protect New Yorkers from public health risks associated with acid rain and mercury deposition.
• Conservancy scientists are working with communities from Manhattan to Montauk to minimize the impact of sea level rise from global warming that could wipe out billions of dollars in property value along with countless species of plants and animals.
• Conservancy shellfish and other marine restoration projects on Long Island and along the Hudson River ensure New Yorkers will always have access to sustainable, locally-harvested oysters, clams, scallops and fish.
