The Manchester Cedar Swamp is a 602-acre ecological preserve at Hackett Hill, and is one of the state's most significant ecological areas.

The Conservancy has long recognized the importance of the Cedar Swamp for its outstanding assemblage of rare habitats and species, including Atlantic white cedar, black gum, giant rhododenron, and sweet goldenrod.

The Nature Conservancy officially acquired the original 350 acres from the City of Manchester in August 2001. Another 246 acres was added to the preserve in December, 2002. The Conservancy designed and -- along with many hardworking volunteers -- created a trail system. The Conservancy is also establishing base-line scientific information to monitor the health of the unique natural systems and ensure that the ecological integrity of the site is maintained.
